Know primarily for his innovative combinations of video, sculpture, photography and performance, Barré's works explore the relationships between the individual and mass-media systems with humor, irony and imagination. Christian engages the viewer with his candid exploration of peculiar emotions. Taking experiences from his own life, he often presents painful situations with raw honesty and sensitive humour. Barré's work investigates semiotics and linguistics as well as the relationship between people and politics. Several of his works absorb the spectator in a web of sociological relationships.

He had solo exhibitions at the Montreal Telegraph, the 3e Imperial, and the Plein Sud Art Center and several group shows for the Mois de la Photo with the project ALICA and on the web at http://www.VIROSE.pt/.

Christian Barré was born in the Eastern Townships in 1968. He completed a Masters in Fine Arts at U.Q.A.M. in 1998. Christian lives and works in Quebec city.

Christian Barré vit et travaille à Québec. Il possède une Maîtrise es arts de l'Université du Québec à Montréal. Il a exposé au Montréal Télégraphe au centre d'essai le 3e impérial et à Plein Sud dans le cadre du Prix Duchamp-Villon.

Il a aussi participé à plusieurs expositions de groupe : au Mois de la Photo à Montréal (2001), au projet ALICA du 3e impérial et lors du symposium organisé par VIROSE (Porto, Portugal, 2001).

En 2004 il a participé à la Biénnale de Montréal, en 2005 à la Manif d'art de Québec et présenté DIGNITÉ au Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal. Il a aussi exposé son travail en duo avec Catherine Plaisance cet automne en Pologne.

Pour 2008, il est en résidence de production à la Bande Vidéo au mois de janvier, à Daïmon en février et à Sagamie en avril.
